It
all began in the summer of 2006, when the Godfrey family got a wonderful
golden doodle we named JAZZ. Rather that training her using standard behavioral
model used, I decided to try the Dog Psychology method. During this time
I began to see the simplicity and organized structure of a dog's life.
I realized that this process of training was very zenlike for both Jazz
and myself.
While vacationing in Florida my husband and I were
talking about how important it was to stay on track with JAZZ and her
training. I said to my husband, You need to be Zen, you know, be the dog.
From there we talked about what a great life they lead. We compared their
priorities to ours, and discovered how we could benefit and learn from
them. From there we attached dog behaviors, like Be The Dog... get the
ball, or Be The Dog... take a nap. I said, Wouldn't that be great on a
shirt!I wrote down some ideas in a notebook and drew a stick figure dog
to go with it. The notebook got put away but, the T-shirt idea stuck.
In the summer of 2008 I began to think of my idea again simply by watching
my dogs behavior with other dogs. That woke up the T-shirt idea again,
I wrote the mission statement and began to make an extensive list of potential
taglines. I began to throw around ideas for a logo, and also about what
style of shirts I would wear. In the winter of 2009 the logo was developed.
I just couldn't stop there so I decided to just keep going and start my
own t-shirt company.
So, ZENDOG was born. Since then, I have printed
nineteen taglines and have created over 100 different taglines waiting
in the wings to reflect your connection with you and the life lessons
that can be learned from your dog. This concept would have never come
into fruition had it not been for my baby, Jazz. Thank you for your inspiration
and love. Mommy loves you.
